Are My Sites Up? Free online service

January 7th, 2009 - Website Tools - 3 Comments

Aremysitesup.com is a free online service that does exactly as the title says. Monitors, for free, your sites indicating if they’re online or not. You can also receive SMS updates with the status of your websites available from what i can see in the US, UK, Germany, Austria, Canada and France. Nice little app but i’d love to see an Air application for the system tray giving me information without having to login on the website. Excellent little thing though.

Project Deploy

To small/medium scale website designers: How many times per week do you have to create a basic site file structure? You know, create the image directory, the javascript directory, download or copy & paste the framework in it, create the css directory, place the framework of your choice, reset file or whatever etc etc etc.

Well Project Deploy will help you with this. Through a wizard, you can choose the basic structure of your new site. Choose the doc-type of your (x)html files, create (if needed) the css directory and place a reset css file, use or not the jquery framework and create the basic directory structure. Great little app!

Kontain – a blogging platform from FI.com

November 18th, 2008 - Blog Platforms, Useful Apps - 4 Comments

Fantasy Interactive released an alpha version of their flash blogging platform called Kontain.com. What is all about? Plain and simple. Create an account in 1′ minute or less (you only have to activate your membership, that’s the only extra step) and start writing, uploading video, music, pictures or whatever you want. Create in other words your own “Kontainer” in seconds.

The whole platform is Flash based and some people could say WTF?, but before saying anything just pay a visit, create an account and start playing around. I don’t know, the interface just makes sense. If you want to learn more about it, have a look at FI’s offical website and the post on their “Kontainer”. Excellent work.

Wordcraft | an alternative blogging platform

November 7th, 2008 - Blog Platforms, Useful Apps - 1 Comments

There are so many blogging platforms to choose from. WordPress, Expression Engine, MovableType you name it. The problem with these platforms is the fact that they have tones of features that i don’t think many people use. Most of the blogs i visit are following the same “posts, archive, search, links, popular, comments” format.

If you are looking for a very simple blogging platform have a look at wordcraft. It provides the basic functionality (pages, posts, comments, tags, trackbacks, friendly_urls) and a very easy system to create your templates. So, if the above features are all you need, then give it a try. Current version is 0.4 and it’s hosted at Google Code.
